BloggeRhythms 5/27/2013

I read a recap of Bob Dole’s appearance today on Fox News Sunday. The now retired Republican served as Senator from Kansas from 1969–1996.

His comment that caught my eye was, "I think they ought to put a sign on the [Republican] national committee doors that says 'closed for repairs' until New Year's Day next year and spend that time going over ideas and positive agendas."

He believes much of the the gridlock in D.C. “Rests with a fractious Congress that seems more interested in partisan drama than doing its job.” Adding that, “It seems to be almost unreal that we can't get together on a budget or legislation."

He then compared today's Congress unfavorably to when he served, stating, "We weren't perfect by a long shot, but at least we got our work done."

I’m mentioning him because although I assume he’s certainly much closer connected to anything Congress does than I could ever be, even I’m aware of the legislation proposed by the incumbent and other Dem’s today. I’m also aware that from the White House on down, these are people who absolutely refuse to compromise at any time. They much prefer either ramming bills through, or finding some other way to skirt debate, sliding whatever they can into law with no discussion whatsoever.

But aside from their methodology, there’s the legislation itself. From bailouts, to reducing military strength, to abandoning inroads made in the Middle East, to blockage of the Keystone pipeline, to unbridled, unbudgeted national debt, to overregulation in business and the economy in general, to significant government growth, to empowerment of the Justice Department in secret arms deals, investigating members of the press, growth of the IRS to oversee healthcare taxation that doesn’t work, to union favoritism, to ongoing attempts at wealth redistribution and continual efforts to increase the size of the welfare rolls.

While there’s much more that could be added to the preceding list that demonstrates declining trends and significant weakening of the nation, I wonder precisely what Bob Dole would like Republicans to try to agree with. Because, it seems to me that everything they propose to Dem's is either totally ignored or denigrated, further harmed and distorted by a biased liberal press.

So, as for myself, I’m just happy Republicans have done what they could under the circumstances. Because had they not, we’d already be the third world nation the incumbent admires and envisions.

That’s it fir today folks.

Adios
