BloggeRhythms 5/26/2013

Holiday weekends rarely provide much headline news and this one’s no exception. But there are a couple of things of note.

First, although I really hate cold weather, and am very disappointed that what should be an outdoor few days won’t happen unless I’m willing to freeze my tail off, at least global-warming phonies and frauds are taking a credibility loss that does much to improve my disposition.

Then there was Lindsey Graham’s telling Fox News Sunday that he thinks a special or independent counsel should investigate the Justice Department’s tracking of phone calls and emails of Fox News reporter, James Rosen.

The South Carolina Republican Senator believes Attorney General Eric Holder was too involved in the process to be objective, signing off on the affidavit for the investigation himself, which Graham thinks is “clearly an overreach.”

Fox reported that “The Justice Department search warrant stated investigators had probable cause to think Rosen had violated the federal Espionage Act and that he might have aided or abetted others or was a co-conspirator.”

There are many preferring that Congress take on cases like this itself, feeling special counsel proceedings take too long, since later appeals can result in total time of three or more years. However, despite the lengthy timespan, I for one, would like to see special counsel appointed in one or more of the “scandals” plaguing the administration now.

Whereas counsels themselves are truly independent, it takes politics and favoritism out of the picture. Witnesses are dealt with separately and apart from any kind of partisanship, meaning they don’t have party allies offsetting hard-line questioning. It's also a safer environment for trade-offs or deals for testimony or whistle-blowing provided.

Another beneficial aspect is that simply introducing special counsel should get things moving in an even more serious direction, providing far less room for evading truths, misleading answers and outright fabrications from those who testify. And that’s what’s really missing now.

At the moment it seems those in this administration have not only placed themselves above all the rest, they also feel their actions and deeds are not to be questioned whatsoever. Nonetheless, proven facts and results indicate that their performance to date is actually the complete and utter reverse of their statements.

All of which means that if nothing else, special counsel would not only bring these lofty misguided idealists down to Earth, but Earth’s also the place where all the jails are located.

That’s it for today folks.

Adios
