Today’s another in which two completely different perspectives can be found
regarding the new POTUS’s performance to date. One from the MSM which is
consistently negative, and the other from his real world accomplishments which
are not only extremely good, but exactly what his constituency desires.
A major unintentional endorsement came from the Fed yesterday which raised the
benchmark interest rate a quarter point. In her commentary at a press
conference, Federal Reserve Board Chair Janet Yellen said: "The simple message
is the economy is doing well. We have confidence in the robustness of the
economy and its resilience to shocks."
While not specific to President Trump, it’s certainly obvious that it's his
economy that’s pushing the envelope, something his predecessor never
accomplished during eight years in office.
Heather Scott @yahoo.com/news, wrote: “The US Federal Reserve on
Wednesday raised the benchmark interest rate a quarter point, amid rising
inflation, the second increase since President Donald Trump's election and only
the third in a decade.
“The FOMC statement noted that inflation is moving closer to the central
bank's two percent target, and "the labor market continued to strengthen" amid
solid job gains, while "economic activity has continued to expand at a moderate
pace."
“The FOMC once again said it expected those economic improvements to continue
with only "gradual adjustments" in the policy interest rate.”
And if that’s not praise for Trump’s performance, it would be hard to imagine
what would be.
Reader labillyboy, provided an astute summary of the issue: “Just
amazing... propped up Obama's lousy economic policy with zero rates... the
second a Republican is in the White House she's already raised rates twice.
Sure, rates should be higher, they never should have been taken to zero in the
first place... but this is unabashedly partisan.”
Next comes results from a Fox News poll wherein the statistical
results send their own message regarding the true condition of health care
coverage in the nation.
As reported by Dana Blanton @FoxNews.com, yesterday: “An
overwhelming 93 percent majority of voters say they have health insurance, and
more than three in four (77 percent) rate their insurance positively (35 percent
excellent and 42 percent good). Those ratings are down a bit from pre-ObamaCare
days when 84 percent rated their insurance positively in July 2009 (the last
time the question was asked on a Fox poll).”
So, what that means is, with all the time, effort, Executive branch
and Congressional involvement and taxpayer money expended, the entire endeavor
concerns only 7% of the general public. If that isn't upside down irrationality, what is?
As far as the populace breakdown’s concerned: “Voters ages 65 and over (53
percent), lower-income voters (52 percent), women (56 percent), non-whites (69
percent), and Democrats (86 percent) are among the groups most likely to have a
positive view of ObamaCare.”
Which means that the program itself draws attraction from those who’d most
likely favor any government action of a socialistic nature.
What’s also of interest is that: “Over half of voters (54 percent) oppose the
GOP plan -- but that doesn’t tell the full story. Among those against it,
two-thirds don’t like it because it makes too many changes to ObamaCare, but one
in five complains it doesn’t change the law enough.”
So, here again it isn’t the merits of the Republican health care fix that’s
disliked by dissidents, it’s the fear of losing a government handout.
Then, the next two items break down as should be expected whereas beyond
Obamacare itself, the answers reflect the difference between Republican and
leftist ideology. “Overall, 34 percent favor the current Republican plan to
repeal and replace ObamaCare. And while a majority of Republicans favors it (69
percent), a sizable minority is either against it (15 percent) or unsure (16
percent).
“A Fox News Poll in January found that by a 56-41 percent margin, voters
believe it is the responsibility of the federal government to make sure all
Americans have health care. Ninety percent of Democrats said it’s the
government’s job. Twenty percent of Republicans agreed.”
The next one also comes from Dana Blanton @FoxNews.com regarding
a separate poll that’s consistent with the fact that despite the new POTUS’s
delivery on his promises, many voters animosity toward him overrides his
accomplishments.
The column is headed: “Fox News Poll: Trump approval slips, even as more feel
economy improving”
“Voters think President Trump is ahead of most previous presidents on
fulfilling campaign promises, and the most voters in more than a decade see an
improving economy. Yet that isn’t enough to put the president’s job rating in
positive territory, according to a Fox News Poll released Wednesday.
“By a 19-point margin, voters feel the economy is getting better rather than
worse for their family (48-29 percent). The 48 percent “getting better” number
is the highest since the question was first asked in 2003. Just five months
ago, voters felt the economy was getting worse by an 11-point margin (37 percent
better vs. 48 percent worse, October 2016).”
So, here we have the nation’s economy performing far better than it has in 14
years, yet many voters still refuse to reflect appreciation toward Trump.
However, he’s only been at the helm for 50 days at present, which gives him
almost eight full years to keep trying to persuade them with positive results
for the nation in general.
The poll also showed that: “Those backing Hillary Clinton in the election
overwhelmingly disapprove of Trump’s job performance (93 percent) and a large
majority feels his lack of political experience is a negative (84 percent).
“It’s the opposite among Trump voters: 93 percent give him a thumbs-up and
81 percent feel being a non-politician has helped him do his job.”
Meaning that here again, for many job performance really doesn't matter at
all when it comes to politics. And for those on the left, it’s not of much
concern as to how the economy performs. Because if funds don’t come from the
nation’s productivity, they’ll simply take them from whoever has them elsewhere.
And lastly, an aside comes from two Facebook comments regarding the
bill to replace Obamacare and government spending in general. What both items
reflect is that considerable numbers of voters are certainly aware of what goes
on in politics and provide insight into why Trump was elected POTUS.
CindyTom Rose wrote: “Instead of focusing on INSURANCE...why aren't
they fixing the COST of the actual CARE? It's insane that an X-ray can cost
$300+ or an existing and (formally) cheap drug has increased in price a
thousand-fold. A night in the hospital shouldn't cost $1200.....the prices of
services are what drives up the cost of insurance....fix the problem...not the
result of the problems! We shouldn't need to use insurance for a doctors visit
or a blood pressure med......”
Cyril Broom pushed the argument farther, writing: “ If you take all
the dollars that our government wastes on stupid programs, foreign aid, and
fraud then we maybe able to have an affordable health program. Basically the
government needs to clean up its act. The citizens of the USA need to push for
term limits, no more professional politicians. If we don't take care of
ourselves first we will be of little use to others.”
Thus, what the preceding comments and Trump’s election shows is that there
truly are many among the populace that know full well how and why the nation
works as it does. And as time goes by under the new administration, maybe even
the MSM will begin to admit that.
That's it for today folks.
Adios
