Today’s items relate more to trends than to particulars in the news. Both come from newsmax.com and both predicate on polls.

Theodore Bunker writes @newsmax.com:A new poll conducted more than a year after the Capitol attack found that fewer Americans in both parties say former President Donald Trump bears a lot of responsibility for the events on that day compared to polling at the time.”

“Pew Research Center compared the results of a survey taken in January 2022 to one conducted in January 2021 that asked U.S. voters whether Trump bears “a lot” of responsibility, “some” responsibility” or is not “at all” responsible “for the violence and destruction committed by some of his supporters when they broke into the U.S. Capitol on Jan. 6, 2021.”

The poll found:

  • 43% in 2022 said Trump bears “a lot” of responsibility for the attack.
  • 52% in 2021 said Trump bore “a lot” of responsibility for the attack.
  • 24% in 2022 said Trump bears “some” responsibility for the attack.
  • 23% in 2021 said Trump bore “some” responsibility for the attack.
  • 32% in 2022 said Trump bears “none at all” responsibility for the attack.
  • 24% in 2021 said Trump bore “none at all” responsibility for the attack.

Digging deeper into the statistics reveals that, unsurprisingly, individual perception of responsibility for the Capitol attack relates directly to political party affiliation, as follows:

“A majority of Republicans and Republican-leaning independents now believe that Trump bears no responsibility for the attack on the Capitol, according to the poll.

  • 70% of Democrats in 2022 said Trump bears “a lot” of responsibility for the attack.
  • 81% of Democrats in 2021 said Trump bore “a lot” of responsibility for the attack.
  • 17% of Democrats in 2022 said Trump bears “some” responsibility for the attack.
  • 14% of Democrats in 2021 said Trump bore “some” responsibility for the attack.
  • 10% of Republicans in 2022 said Trump bears “a lot” of responsibility for the attack.
  • 18% of Republicans in 2021 said Trump bore “a lot” of responsibility for the attack.
  • 57% of Republicans in 2022 said Trump bears “none at all” responsibility for the attack.
  • 46% of Republicans in 2021 said Trump bore “none at all” responsibility for the attack.

Considering the changes in opinion over the last 12 months regarding Trump’s responsibility, one can only assume that by the time of the next presidential election the event will have no real implication at all.

On the other hand, however, another poll presents considerable consternation for the present chief executive.

According to Luca Cacciatore, also at newsmax.com, “The latest CNN poll conducted by SSRS from Jan. 10 to Feb. 6 showed President Joe Biden's disapproval rating reaching a staggering 58% among U.S. adults, according to results released on Thursday.

“Only 41% of respondents approved of his performance. The same poll had Biden's approval at 49% and disapproval at 51% in December.

“Among independents, 36% approved of Biden's job performance. For Republicans, that number was at 9%. Democratic approval for the president dropped from 94% last summer to 83% in the latest survey.”

While the results themselves are not surprising, the source is. Because these numbers come from CNN, who will certainly do all possible to slant them in Biden’s favor. In fact, it’s also highly probable that CNN did help where they could, thus suggesting that true disapproval is likely even higher.

Within this poll, another statistic provided particular insight as to voter sentiment: “Disapprovers of the president were also asked to name a single thing he has done that they approved of. A shocking 56% said they have nothing positive to say about his term.”

Viewing the poll results brings another thought to mind regarding voter predilections and tendencies. In particular, the fact that progressives tend to be slackers, poorly informed, gullible, and most importantly, stubborn and spoiled. Because if they were to use whatever intelligence they might possess, they’d learn from their mistakes, gather helpful information, and try to negotiate or in some way appease their opponents to some extent.

But not these intellectual dwarfs. For them it’s “my way or the highway,” making every issue, no matter how ridiculous in practicality a toe to toe confrontation. And the more the public sees of their objectives and the results, the more distaste grows.

So, while progressives continually refuse to bend in their administrative approach, the rising prices of fuel and food to the average voter along with removal of the southern border and it’s attendant risks to national security, coupled with forced use of ineffective masks, the cost of fictional climate-change and crime overtaking the nation’s largest cities...the policies themselves will bring an end to the insanity when voters next go to the booths.

That’s it for today folks.

Adios
