BloggeRhythms

Either by some type of devious design, or simply due to incredible ineptitude, how this administration’s harmed those it purported to support unequivocally is absolutely astounding. At the same time, those labeled as enemies in campaign speeches and beyond, are enriching themselves as never before at the expense of the rest of the population. Because, the rolls of the “poor” have reached new highs while politically connected billionaires prosper.

Lachlan Markay of watchdog.org via Fox News.com writes that, “Labor unions criticized the Environmental Protection Agency’s new regulations on carbon emissions from power plants on Monday, highlighting growing tensions between the environmentalist and working class arms of the Democratic Party.

Those tensions have come to the forefront as leading Democrats embrace environmentalist policies backed by billionaire political donors that are generally opposed by members of the party’s rank and file base.”

In that regard, “United Mine Workers of America (UMWA) president Cecil Roberts blasted the proposal, saying it would leave tens of thousands of the union’s members unemployed.

“The proposed rule … will lead to long-term and irreversible job losses for thousands of coal miners, electrical workers, utility workers, boilermakers, railroad workers and others without achieving any significant reduction of global greenhouse gas emissions,” Roberts said in a statement.

According to a UMWA analysis, Roberts said, the rule will cause 75,000 job losses in the coal sector by 2020, rising to 152,000 by 2035.”

Reading Mr. Roberts comments spurred me to do some homework regarding what some key elements of the nation’s economy look like at the moment, relative to what further government imposed hurdles would likely make even worse.

At present, with a total outlay of $108.9 billion in 2013, food and nutrition assistance accounted for 72 percent of USDA’s budget. Furthermore, approximately 1 in 4 Americans participated in at least 1 of the 15 food and nutrition assistance programs at some point during FY 2013. Which means that a full quarter of the population’s now forced to require handouts, likely because many of them can’t find viable work in this economy.

At the same time, CNSNews.com reports that, “ A new analysis by the Employment Policy Institute (EPI) shows that unemployment among teens without a high school diploma is more than 50 percent in two of the largest U.S. cities.

Using U.S. Census Bureau data from May 2013 to April 2014, the analysis reveals that in Riverside-San Bernardino area of Southern California, the unemployment rate for teens ages 16 to 19 years old who don’t have a high school diploma is 54.2 percent.

The cities rounding out the Top 15 are Philadelphia-Camden-Fremont (33.2 percent), Chicago-Naperville-Joliet (33 percent), Pittsburgh, Pa. (32.9 percent), Sacramento-Arden-Arcade Roseville (32.1 percent), Baltimore-Towson (31.4 percent), Tampa-St. Petersburg-Clearwater (31.2 percent), St. Louis (28 percent), Miami-Fort Lauderdale-Miami Beach (27.3 percent) and Dallas-Fort Worth-Arlington (26.5).

Making the deplorable situation even worse, “Those graduating are being confronted by a challenging job market, which eventually leads many to just drop out of the labor force altogether.” And, “This in turn has led to an increasing delinquency rate for student-loan borrowers.”

Which is why its no surprise that young people are increasingly opting, perhaps out of necessity, to live at home with their parents.

In that regard, “In his latest monthly chart book, Deutsche Bank's Torsten Slok tracks 18- to 34-years-olds” finding that almost a third of this group are currently in this position, as shown in the following chart.

As far as the general population's concerned, welfare spending and entitlement payments now make up 69 percent of the entire federal budget, which may not be realized because the administration's changed the way that unemployment’s reported, disguising the actual numbers.

A contrarian economist, John Williams, “suggests the the government’s numbers are not even close. At his web site ShadowStats.com, “he calculates the rate of employment using the same methods that were used prior to 1994 when they were officially defined out of existence by bureaucrats looking to pad the numbers.”

Mr. Williams says that, “According to those numbers, we’re looking at an unemployment rate of over 23%,” which would correlate much better with the fact that so many are now not reported as unemployed if they’ve dropped out of the work force because they’ve given up hope of finding decent employment.

Which brings us to today’s latest item on an ongoing topic, the global warming farce.

Ciara Lavelle’s Miami New Times Blog via Drudge reports that, “Victoria Milan, a dating website for people looking to cheat on their significant other, surveyed 5,000 of its members, both men and women. A shocking 72 percent of them responded that yes, their own Al Gore-esque stress about unpredictable weather is the cause of their extramarital dalliances. Guess the fact of their existing committed relationships was just an inconvenient truth.”

So, the beat goes on that whatever the problem is from the economy, to the environment, to foreign policy, to costs of living, and now, marital infidelity. If things go wrong, regardless of the subject, blame it all on climate change.

That’s it for today folks.

Adios
