A subject of interest over the last few days has been Democrat
leaderships insistence on making complete fools of themselves. Particularly
because of their immediate, knee-jerk objections to anything proposed by the new
administration, whether those objections are rational or not.
The quandary resulting from the self defeating strategy is remindful of the
slogan used to market the phonograph‘s introduction as a “gift that keeps on
giving.” Because the benefits from Democrats lack of mature, intelligent and
worthwhile responses will help Republicans to remain in political power for
years and years to come.
In today’s case a federal judge, James Robart, in Seattle “issued a temporary
nationwide restraining order Friday stopping President Trump's executive order
banning citizens of seven countries from entering the United States.”
Washington Attorney General Bob Ferguson said in a statement after the
ruling: “The Constitution prevailed today. No one is above the law — not even
the President. It's our president's duty to honor this ruling and I'll make sure
he does."
While the legal issues are quite clear and simple to grasp, the political
practicality of the matter is somewhat harder to understand. And that’s because
while Trump is taking steps to secure the nation’s safety, Democrats are
fighting him tooth and nail to prevent him from doing that.
On Fox News, Vice President Mike Pence put it this way to Sean
Hannity: “any fair-minded person" would understand the directive's intent. What
President Trump has done is essentially impose a pause on countries that have
been compromised by terrorism so that we can evaluate the screening process and
establish ... extreme vetting so that people coming in to this country don’t
represent a threat to our families and our communities."
Pence added that the order was "clearly not a Muslim ban" and "not in any way
associated with religion."
So, here we have a president trying his best to protect Americans and their
homeland and Democrats saying “Oh, no” we don’t want you doing that. Leave the
borders unattended and let anyone in who wants to come here.
And what’s even more ridiculous are the actual statistics involved.
After the court hearing, Will Cocks, a spokesman for the State Department's
Bureau of Consular Affairs, provided the details as follows:
"Fewer than 60,000 individuals' visas were provisionally revoked to comply
with the executive order. We recognize that those individuals are temporarily
inconvenienced while we conduct our review under the executive order. To put
that number in context, we issued over 11 million immigrant and nonimmigrant
visas in fiscal year 2015. As always, national security is our top priority
when issuing visas."
Which, according to basic arithmetic, comes down to 'inconveniencing" .0054% of the total
number of those seeking to come here. For the other 99.5%, nothing changed an iota.
As the situation unfolded, the unequivocally predictable Schumer praised the
ruling in a Friday night statement, saying: “This ruling is a victory for the
Constitution and for all of us who believe this un-American executive order will
not make us safer. President Trump should heed this ruling and he ought to back
off and repeal the executive order once and for all.”
So, by saying that he believes Trump’s efforts to protect the nation are
wrong which implies that events like 9/11 are to be ignored, Schumer’s
apparently trying to appeal to his leftist base. And, perhaps, he must rely on
the negative because he has nothing else to offer.
Because, as noted by FoxNews.com’s Chris Stirewalt yesterday,
“Democrats, on the other hand, now find themselves desperate to oppose Trump but
also freighted with trying to defend Obama’s legacy. Obama’s health law. Obama’s
Iran deal. Obama’s Supreme Court appointment. Obama’s global warming plan.
Obama’s immigration action. And on and on.”
Which also explains why Schumer breaks down and cry’s so much.
That’s it for today folks.
Adios
