BloggeRhythms

Today’s another where, aside from being aware of breaking news, you have to analyze an event carefully to fully understand exactly what’s happening and why.

According to NPR, Attorney General, Eric Holder, “intends to leave the Justice Department as soon as his successor is confirmed, a process that could run through 2014 and even into next year.”

The story goes on to report that, “A former U.S. government official says Holder has been increasingly "adamant" about his desire to leave soon for fear that he otherwise could be locked in to stay for much of the rest of President Obama's second term.”

Now, while that sounds like the AG has simply decided it’s time to quit after six years in office, his story doesn't quite fit if you do some simple arithmetic. Because, there’s little doubt that whatever replacement is chosen by this administration, Congressional confirmation won’t come quick or easy.

Therefore, it may well be more than a year and closer to two, before a successor’s accepted, very close to the normal end of Holder’s term in office. Especially if the Republican’s control both houses of Congress after this November's elections, further delaying confirmation of a replacement.

Which means that there's probably some major issue that Holder himself, or the incumbent, is worried about that’s about to surface. And although I have no clue as to what the situation might be, the odds are that there certainly is one.

On another issue, FoxNews.com reports that, “Iranian President Hassan Rouhani on Thursday sought to leverage  the crisis in the Middle East to ease sanctions on his country as part of nuclear talks, suggesting during a United Nations address that security cooperation between Iran and other nations could only occur if they struck a favorable nuclear deal.”

While, the U.S. publicly has said it will not cooperate militarily or share intelligence with Iran to address the Islamic State threat, Secretary of State John Kerry said this week he was "open to have a conversation at some point in time if there's a way to find something constructive." And the U.S. reportedly notified Iran in advance of plans to strike inside Syria.”

Which means that, slowly but surely, Iran will almost certainly wind up arming itself with nuclear weapons, while the administration sits back and let sit happen. Because it’s been obvious from the start of the half-hearted efforts to prevent Iran’s nuclear build-up that the whole Middle-East has been disregarded, up to and including almost a complete abandonment of long-time ally Israel.

That's it for today folks.

Adios
