BloggeRhythms

Many years ago, about to begin my first job in sales which involved calling on prospective customers, an uncle of mine offered me some advice which has proven consistently true throughout my career and life in general.

Most people you meet, in business or otherwise, he said, will always try to make the best impression they can in virtually every situation. Because they believe that the more impressed you are with them, the more you will try to please them, favoring them in every way possible.

Therefore, the best way to determine the true capabilities and worth of those you meet and call on, is not to simply take what they say or present for granted. But instead to examine them closely, searching for truths, regardless of what they choose to show or tell you. That way, those truly deserving favorable treatment earn what they receive, while those who don’t do not.

As an example, my uncle described visiting an owner’s place of business, which he felt provided excellent opportunities to assess an entity’s capabilities and practices. When you visit, he suggested, look closely at how employees you see and meet act, appear, dress and interact among themselves. Because, professional conduct, attention to detail, timeliness and business knowledge indicate competence, capability and pride in their work, while the reverse suggests indifference, incompetence and more than likely, ultimate failure.

I mention this today because of an article by Josh Lederman of the Associated Press, via Drudge, who writes that, “The Secret Service chief has stepped-up security outside the White House after a man with a knife who jumped the fence made it into the presidential residence before being apprehended, officials said Saturday.

President Barack Obama insisted he still has confidence in the beleaguered agency's ability to protect him and his family.”

So, here we have a perfect example of an administration that’s rife with incompetence at every level imaginable. Up to and including the protection and safety of the POTUS.

And no matter what the issue is, foreign affairs, the economy, the health care tax, illegal immigration, the environment, job creation.  reducing the debt, reducing poverty, reducing income inequality and even slowing the rise of the oceans, every single one’s been a colossal failure.

All of which goes to show that my uncle was right. Because if you can’t even arrange for those closest to you to do things correctly, such as competent personnel to guard your own life, what else in the world could you ever get right?

That’s it for today folks.

Adios
