As mentioned yesterday, a few extremely significant events are presently taking place, such as Israel's escalating actions in Gaza likely leading to war in the region, potentially including many other nations in the Middle-East. Added to that is looming “fiscal cliff” which must be resolved quickly to avoid recession-causing tax hikes, among a host of other domestic problems.
So, with these critical issues festering here and now, along with many, many others, what does our world-class icon of leadership do? He took off today for an “official” three-day tour of Asia. According to Fox News on-line, he said Thailand’s his first stop because ”it is crucial to American job creation and security.”
In a news conference he added that visiting Bangkok and it’s Prime Minister Yingluck Shinawatra. “Is no accident.” Calling Thailand “America's oldest friend in Asia,” a relationship that’s nearly 180 years old, he emphasized that the United States is a "Pacific nation," and that the Asia-Pacific region will be crucial for creating jobs in the U.S. and shaping its security and prosperity. He now travels on to Myanmar and Cambodia.
Now, I don’t know about you, but I can’t ever remember hearing anyone, anywhere, any time ever mentioning Thailand's importance in creating jobs in the U.S. In fact, to my knowledge I don’t think that except for wading in rice paddies, anyone in those three nations works at all but I could be wrong. However, maybe they plan to buy Louisiana hot sauce by the truckload to further spice up their already highly flammable food.
Nonetheless, even I can guess what the real importance of this presidential trip is. Because without having to look at a globe I know that it’s about as far out of town as someone who wants to go into hiding can travel.
That’s it for today folks.
Adios
