Tim Walker and Nigel Morris @independent.co.uk, write: “Barack Obama
has sharply criticised David Cameron for the UK’s role in allowing Libya to
become a “s*** show” after the fall of the dictator Muammar Gaddafi, in an
unprecedented attack on a British leader by a serving US President.
“Mr Obama said that following a successful military intervention to aid
rebels during the 2011 Arab Spring revolt, Libya was left to spiral out of
control – due largely to the inaction of America’s European allies.”
“In a candid US magazine interview, Mr Obama said: “When I go back and I ask
myself what went wrong… there’s room for criticism, because I had more faith in
the Europeans, given Libya’s proximity, being invested in the follow-up.”
The POTUS then singled out the British Prime Minister, suggesting that
David Cameron, “had taken his eye off Libya after being distracted by a range of
other things.”
And then, two thirds of the way into the article, the POTUS’s objective in
vilifying Cameron became clear, as follows:
“Mr Obama also said Mr Cameron’s failures had affected his decision not to
enforce a “red line” over President Bashar al-Assad’s use of chemical weapons
during the Syrian civil war. The President had planned a strike against Assad’s
forces in August 2013, following a deadly sarin gas attack by the regime on
civilians in a Damascus suburb. The strike w as called off at the 11th hour. One
“major factor” in the decision, the President said, “was the failure of Cameron
to obtain the consent of his Parliament” for military action.”
Thus, not being the brightest bulb in anyone’s chandelier, it took a few
years. But the POTUS finally figured out a way to blame someone else for his
own failure to deliver on another of the empty threats he so frequently makes.
This time pointing the finger at the nation’s longest, closest and always
reliable ally.
As far as the Republican presidential race goes, FoxNews.com
reports: Ben Carson endorsed Republican front-runner Donald Trump at a news
conference in Florida Friday morning, saying he has buried the hatchet with his
former rival.
Carson said: “There’s a lot more alignment philosophically and
spiritually…that surprised me more than anything,” about his relationship with
Trump. He added that there are two Trumps “one you see on the stage and the one
who is very cerebral.”
So, this means that Trump will now inherit all seven of Carson’s supporters,
if there are that many. And in return, Carson probably asked to be made
Secretary of Health, should Trump win.
There was also another Republican presidential debate last night, which was a
toned down version of the same old, same old, according to news reports.
However, Cruz delivered a line that was unquestionably accurate. “There are only
two of us who have a path to winning the nomination -- Donald and myself,” while
also jokingly referring to Trump as the “son of a businessman.”
And, in fact, if you take what dad left him away, all that’s left of Trump is
zip, zero, nada.
Bringing us to today’s update on Bill Clinton’s wife.
Yesterday, according to The Hill via Chris Stirewalt’s column on
Fox: “Hillary Clinton on Wednesday refused to answer a question about whether
she’d quit the presidential race if she were indicted over her private email
server. ‘Oh, for goodness, it’s not going to happen. I’m not even answering that
question,’ Clinton said in the CNN/Univision debate in Miami. Clinton was asked
by moderator Jorge Ramos about the controversy over her emails and whether she
ever improperly sent classified information over her server. The former
secretary of State reiterated that her email arrangement was permitted and said
the classification of her emails reflects excessive secrecy in the
government.”
Her denial was remindful again of Sadam Hussein’s Press officer Muḥammad
Saʿīd Al-Ṣaḥḥāf aka “Baghdad Bob,” famous for his broadcasts that continually
presented a greatly distorted accounting of the war in Iraq. Bob always
presented his nation, and certainly Hussein, as winning the conflict.
The broadcast where Bob sounded most like Bill’s wife claims of her certain
innocence took place at the very end of the Iraqi conflict. He pronounced on the
air that American soldiers were committing suicide "by the hundreds" outside the
city, denying there were any American tanks in Baghdad. However, at that very
time, they were only several hundred meters away from the press conference where
he was speaking and the combat sounds of the nearing American troops could
already be heard in the background of the broadcast.
A few minutes later, American troops entered the studio and carried Bob out
by the ankles and armpits, still screaming that Iraq was winning.
Which brings up the ongoing question again: Joe Biden, Mayor Bloomberg, Jerry
Brown, and Starbuck’s chairman and CEO, Howard Schultz, are you guys reading
this?
That’s it for today folks.
Adios
