BloggeRhythms 5/7/2010

I came across a TV movie this morning I'd never seen before, not even heard of in fact. Rudy: The Rudy Giuliani Story. The 2003 film covers the mainstream of Giuliani's career. James Wood plays the title role which covers the time Rudy became U.S. Attorney for the Southern District of New York until the destruction of the Trade Center towers in 2001.

I've been a Giuliani fan from the time I first heard of him way back when, and through all his ups and downs since then...I still am. I've read and recommended his book, Leadership, to many others and think it provides valuable insight regarding many business and social issues.

One of the things that caught my ear early on in the movie was when he was asked by his wife, Donna Hanover, about his preferences among politicians. He answered that among those he admired were Churchill, Reagan and Bobby Kennedy. She was surprised at the mention of Kennedy, because of his democrat affiliation, and asked Rudy about it. He replied that it had nothing to do with politics, but that Kennedy got things done. And added that in Giuliani's experience democrats continually talked about change, but it was always republicans who went ahead and actually did something about it.

Now, in my own experience, I'd have to agree with that because it seems to me that most democrats I've known are not only generally non-productive types, but are also resentful of those who are. And that, I further believe, is a very good thing. Because if one goes out and simply looks at what's happened every time democrats have actually gotten things accomplished, their accomplishments turn out to be humongous disasters.

Going back to the Carter administration we saw the country practically come to a standstill and the worst environment for productivity since the great depression. In intervening years we've been fortunate to have balances in governmental power during democrat administrations which have prevented similar disasters.

But now, let's look at today where democrats are actually able to get things done in accordance with their agenda. The economy is in a downward spiral that every once in a while shows some short-term gasp of life. But it surely doesn't look like there's any kind of boom in sight now or in the near future. Banks all over the country are practically out of business and paranoid over the next pair of handcuffs the Feds will slap on their business practices. Their inability to extend credit has just about completely choked off business growth of any kind.

The stock market can't figure out where the next governmental sandbag will come from and whether to duck or jump. The military is now considering methods of retaliation against one of our strongest allies, Israel, and may be at odds with another armed force right here at home that will be established to police our own population. The so-called middle-class is presently being taxed out of existence, has not enough to climb further up the economic ladder, and thus will soon find themselves among the poor.

Health care too, has been redesigned and programmed to fail, except for those who are younger and likely don't really need it. But like herds of antelope, elephants and other wild animal species, the older and weaker among us will be culled out and left by the wayside to die.

Education has reached a point where it practically has no value and governmental favoritism toward the teacher's unions and tenure is in the process of making that system even worse.

So, when you add all this up and look at the total damage, realizing that the issues I mentioned are only the ones getting the most attention but there are many more that are just as bad, where does that leave us? I don't have the answer to that one, because I have only one vote. But it seems clear to me that dramatic change is needed and that just like putting Giuliani in office, we've got to replace what's there right now, politician by politician.

That's it for today folks.

Adios
