BloggeRhythms

Friday evening’s inclement weather cancelled July fourth plans which turned out to be extremely pleasurable anyway.

For the first time, I viewed A Capitol Fourth from Washington DC.

"Dancing With the Stars" Tom Bergeron hosted the event from the West Lawn of the U.S. Capitol, a 90 minute, almost entirely musical program. A who’s who of artists performed traditional patriotic songs backed by orchestras, choral groups, along with the National Symphony Orchestra directed by top pops conductor Jack Everly. Featured, was long-time favorite Frankie Valli and the Four Seasons, followed by what’s billed as “the greatest display of fireworks anywhere in the nation.” Even on TV, that seemed certainly true.

It’s estimated that about 700,000 people flock to the National Mall each year for the event,  thousands upon thousands more packing nearby sights including the Lincoln Memorial, the U.S. Capitol steps, the Washington Monument and knolls and lawns in between.

I mention this today, because unfortunately, other thoughts crept up during the outstanding presentation.

Watching the faces and reactions of attendees in the crowd, their happiness and pleasure abounded. Most of them sang along, dancing wherever space allowed, fully appreciating the spectacle, extremely proud to be part of it all. In total, it was a tremendous confirmation of American spirit and values, spontaneously and heartfeltedly delivered throughout the evening.

And that’s what led to the conclusion that there isn’t another nation on earth that now, or ever, could create and sustain that kind of national spirit amongst its citizens. Bringing to mind, whether or not occasions like this are celebrated in places like Iran, Syria, Libya, Afghanistan, Iraq and Pakistan, which of course they're not and never will be.

Consequently, while terrorists, international thugs, border jumpers and others might believe they have any kind of chance to defeat, or even come close to crippling the U.S., I suggest they watch a tape of the event taking place on our nation’s birthday which will surely clarify who and what they’re dealing with.

Because its no accident or mistake that the people attending that celebration are bound together, each representing the strongest, most successful, dedicated population on earth.

That’s it for today folks.

Adios
