BloggeRhythms 6/11/2013

When it comes to environmental protection, Californians generally defy logic and common sense in overboard efforts to keep their state pure and clean. Nonetheless, though, they’re currently facing a dilemma regarding how much more money they’ll throw away purely on principle, primarily because their state is broke.

It seems that a bill was rejected that would have stopped hydraulic fracturing to obtain oil and natural gas until state regulators implement rules for the controversial practice.

According to Alison Vekshin on Bloomberg on-line, “Legislators turned attention to the technique because California may hold 15.4 billion barrels of oil -- two-thirds of the nation’s shale-oil reserves -- in a formation known as the Monterey Shale, according to federal estimates.”

I mention this because just like the incumbent who diligently works to block fossil fuel usage, even though no truly viable alternatives exist, environmentalists cost everyone else countless millions not even knowing whether their objections are valid or not. In the meantime, though, similar processes of fuel extraction have been used in the state for many years without real incident, which leads me to believe the objections are politically driven and completely ridiculous.

Along the same lines, Pew Research Center and The Washington Post conducted a new poll regarding the government's invasion of citizen’s privacy in terrorism surveillance.

Results show that: “Currently 62% say it is more important for the federal government to investigate possible terrorist threats, even if that intrudes on personal privacy. Just 34% say it is more important for the government not to intrude on personal privacy, even if that limits its ability to investigate possible terrorist threats.”

But what’s really interesting to me is that, “Democrats now view the NSA’s phone surveillance as acceptable by 64% to 34%. In January 2006, by a similar margin (61% to 36%), Democrats said it was unacceptable for the NSA to scrutinize phone calls and emails of suspected terrorists.”

So, here we have another example of Democrat’s knee-jerk negative reaction to any and all ideas, procedures, efforts or ideas coming from the Bush administration, regardless of fundamental worth. Yet, almost everything "W" enacted  has been retained by the current administration, because the incumbent simply can't come up with anything better.

Consequently, I really think that by now the Dems' ought to realize that there’s more to leading this nation than worthless talk or lobbying for political/personal gain. And if they did that, it’s quite possible the nation might get out of its stagnating malaise, as could California. But that kind of open-minded approach to problem solving takes some intellect and honest intentions, neither of which the Dem party's possessed for almost all of their existence.

That's it for today folks.

Adios
