BloggeRhythms

Another politically dull day newswise, which is quite good for us all. However, there was a comment in Peggy Noonan’s column in The Wall Street Journal that I still can't quite fathom.

The article’s titled “Finding the Good in an Uninspiring Year” and includes the following: “The past year was not the most satisfying politically, not the most exalted or inspiring. Republicans suffered an unforced error with the shutdown.”

Though I’ve mentioned this several times before, it still makes no sense to me that in an effort to prevent passage of one of the worst legislative mistakes ever made in the nation’s history, and with their backs to the wall, Republicans shut down the government as a last ditch attempt to derail what’s turning out to be precisely the disaster they predicted.

Consequently, although the health care tax is proving to be exactly what these Republicans forecast, why do very bright people like Ms Noonan not see and support the logic behind their beliefs?

At the same time, the Democrats seem to be grasping the depth of the hole being dug for them by their leader, if the following story isn’t a hoax or a joke.

According to the dailycaller.com/2013 on-line, via Drudge: “The Democratic National Committee (DNC) sent out a paranoid email Saturday evening urging supporters to vote for Democrats so that Republicans can’t impeach President Obama.

The email, subject line “Impeachment,” was sent to Obama for America supporters, imploring them to contribute to the DNC’s 2014 efforts. “What do these people all have in common?,” the email asked, featuring quotes from Republican Sen. James Inhofe of Oklahoma, Rep. Michele Bachmann of Minnesota, Rep. Kerry Bentivolio of Michigan, and Rep. Blake Farenthold of Texas discussing the possibility of impeaching Obama for one of his numerous instances of presidential misconduct.

The DNC email discussed the “I-Word” and said that “Republicans are actually excited about the idea.”

So, the timing indicates that Dem leaders have spent some time now back at home, getting direct feedback from their constituents. And if they’re using the “I” word, my guess is the results haven’t been very good. In fact, it looks like extreme fear’s set in.

Therefore, whereas the health care tax probably heads the list of voter dissatisfaction, it still seems that the shutdown was one of the strongest statements on behalf of tax-paying citizens that Republicans have made in a very long time, for which they deserve credit not criticism from respected journalists like Ms Noonan.

That’s it for today folks.

Adios
