BloggeRhythms 5/1/2010

Spoke to a friend yesterday whom I talk with every week or so, sometimes two. He told me he looks forward to reading this blog every day. So, maybe there's a hidden group out there that actually looks at my entries. In any event, I'm going to keep on trying.

Yesterday I heard that Mr. Obama had high praise for the Reverend Al Sharpton. The person who alerted me to that fact said that perhaps the Reverend was making a comeback from a rather quiet spell and seeking a national stage.

While that might be the case, there could be another side to the story. Because recent reports have surfaced noting that the president unofficially appointed Sharpton not only to help spread his economic recovery message, but to help quell a growing discontent among black leadership in the nation. Particularly from Congressional Black Caucus members, along with Tavis Smiley and Dr. Michael Eric Dyson. So, maybe the president's allure with really successful and influential blacks has faded out and they're just as fed up with him as everyone else. Thus the barrel bottom scraping with Reverand Sharpton.

Aside from his presidential assistance duties, Reverend Sharpton has taken up another cause. He's joining the three or four people upset with Arizona's new laws regarding illegal immigrants. And, to highlight the issue, he's mounted a boycott against "Arizona" Iced Tea. While that may have the beverage maker quaking in its proverbial boots, I think there's just as much chance, considering Shapton's involvement, that sales may go through the roof.

Of course, there's another question too. Why is the Reverend boycotting a soft drink that's manufactured in Brooklyn, New York? That's where the company was founded in 1992 by former beer distributors. According to them, they borrowed "the motif from their south-western inspired house in Queens."

That's it for today folks.

Adios
