BloggeRhythms

After the September 11th terrorist attacks in 2001, the U.S.significantly increased its military capabilities at home and abroad, including becoming a major presence in Iraq. In all, more than 4,000 Americans were killed liberating and then pacifying that nation, at a cost of an estimated $1.7 trillion.

The incumbent, however, choosing political pandering over the exercise of national leadership has now abandoned Iraq, not only erasing the gains in that nation, but once again exposing the U.S. to foreign threats. Because Islamist radicals now have an an oil-rich haven from which to launch new strikes against the U.S. and its allies.

Compounding the incredibly poor decision is another major blunder, as reported by Fox News.com. “The political backdrop for this horrifying moment comes as the Obama administration is fighting a losing spin battle to defend the president’s decision to release five Taliban commanders as part of his plan to leave Afghanistan. News that the head of the black-flagged battalions of Islamist forces driving on Baghdad was once a U.S. prisoner, released from captivity in 2009, does not cast the Taliban release in a very favorable light.”

What’s more, the grave miscalculation -stemming from foreign affairs incapability- is also a serious blow to likely presidential contender, Bill Clinton’s wife, because: “New revelations in The Weekly Standard tie one of the five to a key player in the 9/11 attacks. This development is a game changer in knowing how dangerous these five really are, especially after former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton said to NBC News last week, ‘These five guys are not a threat to the United States are a threat to the safety and security of Afghanistan and Pakistan.’”

Therefore, the two top Democrats at present both posses no leadership capabilities, preferring to concentrate on obtaining votes instead. Yet, according to two Gallup poll from January 10, 2014, “Americans continue to be more likely to identify as conservatives (38%) than as liberals (23%).” Therefore, this latest show of incapability should likely cause huge losses of support for both of them.

And what’s just as bad is who’s going to wind up footing huge costs caused by the incumbent’s mistakes. The American public of course.

Javier E. David of CNBC on-line writes that: “The surge in crude helped yank major U.S. stocks sharply lower. Brent climbed by nearly $3 to over $113 a barrel for the first time in 2014, and its highest since September 10. U.S. crude soared by $2.13 to settle at $106.53 a barrel, its highest since mid-September 2013.”

So, another day’s gone by and another costly crisis has arisen. This one not only in dollars however, whereas this one will also likely involve lives spent retaking hard-earned gains lost by leadership’s incompetence.

That’s it for today folks.

Adios
