BloggeRhythms

The other day, a non-computer type friend asked how the blog was going, and what were the most common subjects posted. He’d not inquired in quite some time, and to my own surprise, politics was the answer.

Although political commentary wasn’t the original intention of these daily entry's at all, the answer clearly illustrated, even to myself, how much of every day’s news, here and abroad, is centered on politics. And certainly on politicians themselves. In that regard, today’s items all touch on that subject.

Matthew Lee and George Jahn @myway.com, write that “Disputes over attempts to probe Tehran's alleged work on nuclear weapons unexpectedly persisted at Iran nuclear talks on Monday, diplomats said, threatening plans to wrap up a deal by midnight — the latest in a series of deadlines for the negotiations.”

As mentioned yesterday, two of the issues still needing final agreement include, “Iran's demand for a lifting of a U.N. arms embargo and its insistence that any U.N. Security Council resolution approving the nuclear deal be written in a way that stops describing Iran's nuclear activities as illegal.” The very same major stumbling blocks that have been there since the very beginning, and apparently haven’t budged an iota since then.

What was most interesting about the article, however, is the author’s summation of what’s being done to Israel. The US/Israel relationship began in 1948, when Democrat  Harry Truman was president. And now, today, Israeli Defense Minister Moshe Yaalon said that the nuclear deal would force the Jewish state to "defend itself, by itself." Which means that the 67 year old relationship will almost certainly become undone altogether.

After reading about  Israel's abandonment by the administration, a search revealed Senator Chuck Schumer’s current position on the Iranian “deal.” Nathan Guttman wrote on June 18, 2015 @forward.com, that, “Marisa Kaufman, Schumer’s spokeswoman, told the Forward the senator “hasn’t come to any conclusions yet on this important decision” because the deal is not finalized. “He will carefully measure all factors and do what he thinks is right, independent of pressure from the many interested parties.”

Which means that for this supposedly Israeli supportive empty suit, politics still  trumps rational judgment every time. And when the whole Middle-East erupts in nuclear conflict, this time around for Schumer, there will be nowhere to hide.

On another subject, Binyamin Applebaum @nytimes.com writes that in Asuncion, Paraguay Pope Francis, blended biblical fury with apocalyptic doom. And that, “He does not simply argue that systemic “greed for money” is a bad thing. He calls it a “subtle dictatorship” that “condemns and enslaves men and women.”

What was most interesting about this article wasn’t only the Pope himself, but the mention that, “Even some free-market champions are now reassessing the shortcomings of unfettered capitalism. George Soros, who made billions in the markets, and then spent a good part of it promoting the spread of free markets in Eastern Europe, now argues that the pendulum has swung too far the other way.”

In this case, there are no words in the English language to describe the height of hypocrisy, self-serviance and outright insult to human intelligence espoused by Soros. Whereas this is a man who’d sell out anyone, anywhere, anytime for a quarter, or less, to now refute capitalism is like Nixon saying, “I’m no crook.”

Which brings us to today’s update on Bill Clinton’s wife.

Stephen Moore, a Fox News contributor analyzes Bill’s wife, as follows: “Let's see: she wants more infrastructure spending, higher taxes on the foreign earnings of U.S. Corporations and hedge fund managers, a higher minimum wage, new rules to make it easier to form unions (card check), more child care subsidies, expanded paid medical leave for workers, and renewable energy subsidies.

"Sound familiar? It's more taxes, more regulatory burdens on employers, the green agenda, more government spending paid for with debt. One looks at the list of leftist wish list priorities from yesteryear and wonders: Hillary, is this thin gruel really all you got?”

What’s most interesting, is that Bill’s wife is campaigning against just about everything her husband stood for. And it was also those issues that provided the nation with eight of the best years in its history.

Mr. Moore notes that, “There aren't even hints of her husband's New Democrat agenda that generated growth and reform of government. The free trade, welfare reform, balanced budget, middle class tax cuts, sound money New Democrat agenda has vanished.

Mr. Moore himself, isn’t simply a political writer expressing views as a political columnist. He’s the Distinguished Visiting Fellow, Project for Economic Growth, at The Heritage Foundation. Prior to joining Heritage he  wrote on the economy and public policy for The Wall Street Journal. And, therefore, is one who really knows what he’s writing about.

After reading about Bill’s wife current decision to move to the left, some research showed that, according to Jeffrey M. Jones at Gallup, “An average 43% of Americans identified politically as independents in 2014, establishing a new high in Gallup telephone poll trends back to 1988. In terms of national identification with the two major parties, Democrats continued to hold a modest edge over Republicans, 30% to 26%. the last six years, Democratic identification has fallen from 36% -- the highest in the last 25 years -- to 30%. Meanwhile, Republican identification is down from 28% in 2008 to 26% last year.”

Polling also showed that, independents “care more about the deficit than Democratic voters do, more about the environment than Republicans do, and less about social issues, such as same-sex marriage and abortion, than do voters from either party.2008 to 26% last year.”

So, by moving left, Bill’s wife major appeal rests with 30% of voters, provided she got all of them in her corner. Which means that, the remaining 70% not only lean toward Republican platform themes, with the exception of the environment, every other issue meets the majority’s preferences.

Thus, the only question that remains for Bill Clinton’s wife is how long it will take her to adopt the Republican agenda. Because as most voters know, since the only firm conviction she has is to do whatever it takes to get herself elected president, she really doesn't care which party’s platform she runs on.

Mayor Bloomberg, and Joe Biden, are you reading this?

That’s it for today folks.

Adios
