BloggeRhythms

While those on the left will most assuredly put their own spin on whatever comes out of the Comey congressional testimony this morning, as a practical reality, their fishing expedition is over. And they've come up empty, as usual.

The leftist downward slide began yesterday when, under oath, two leaders of the intelligence community told the Senate that they’d not been pressured to cover up anything.

Director of National Intelligence Dan Coats said: “I have never been pressured—I have never felt pressured—to intervene or interfere in any way with shaping intelligence in a political way or in relation to an ongoing investigation.” National Security Agency Director Mike Rogers added that he never been asked “to do anything I believe to be illegal, immoral, unethical or inappropriate.”

Then this morning, the Editorial Board of the Wall Street Journal opined @wsj.com that at worst, “Mr. Comey’s account of Mr. Trump reveals a willful and naïve narcissist who believes he can charm or subtly intimidate the FBI director but has no idea how Washington works. This is not new information.”

What the board finds most troubling in Mr. Comey’s statement is his belief in what he calls “the FBI’s traditionally independent status in the executive branch,” which he invokes more than once. "Independent? This is a false and dangerous view of law enforcement in the American system."

“Mr. Comey is describing an FBI director who essentially answers to no one. But the police powers of the government are awesome and often abused, and the only way to prevent or correct abuses is to report to elected officials who are accountable to voters. A director must resist intervention to obstruct an investigation, but he and the agency must be politically accountable or risk becoming the FBI of J. Edgar Hoover.”

While Mr. Comey says Trump strongly suggested in February that he close the Michael Flynn file, “If he thought he was being unduly pressured he had a legal obligation to report, and in our view to resign, but he says he didn’t because “we expected” that Mr. Sessions would recuse himself from Russia involvement.

“Well, how did he know? Mr. Sessions didn’t recuse himself until two weeks later. Mr. Comey also didn’t tell the acting Deputy AG, who at the time was a U.S. attorney whom Mr. Comey dismisses as someone “who would also not be long in the role.”

After presenting and analyzing the available information on Comey’s actions in office to date the Journal Board concludes: “This remarkable presumptuousness is the Comey mindset that was on display last year. He broke Justice Department protocol to absolve Hillary Clinton’s mishandling of classified material, without the involvement of Justice prosecutors or even telling then Attorney General Loretta Lynch. Mr. Comey’s disregard for the chain of legal command is why Mr. Trump was right to fire him, whatever his reasons.

The general consensus of readers comments was summed up by Addison Gardner, who addressed leftists, writing: ‘If Trump lights his charcoal grill, you'll claim the smoke proves he shot someone. Get on with your life; Hildabeast lost because she deserved to lose.

“The Democrat party has institutionalized losing, and Americans are on to them. They tried everything to push Hillary's fat derriere over the White House fence, and there wasn't enough manpower to get the job done, notwithstanding DNC front-loading Hillary against Bernie, CNN debate cheating, Network reporter collusion, etc.

“There was "collusion," all right, but it was persistent cooperation between the mainstream media and the Clinton campaign to get the Clitons reinstalled in the West Wing. That collusion was obvious, but it didn't work, so the left is projecting onto Trump what it's, in fact, guilty of.

“Suck it up, and get on with your life. There must be something worthwhile you're suited for.”

On the same subject, appearing yesterday on Fox News’ "Tucker Carlson Tonight,”  Trump's former campaign manager, Corey Lewandowski, claimed that Trump asked then-FBI Director James Comey to “confirm his loyalty to America, not to Trump personally.”

According to Lewandowski , Trump was only trying to ensure "that the American people have the justice system that they want. That's not unheard of. That's not uncalled for." And in doing so, Trump told Comey: “I need loyalty. I expect loyalty" during a Jan. 27 dinner.

In answer, Comey replied: “You will get that from me."

Explaining how Trump functions in office as a “hands-on” leader, Lewandowski also noted that Trump had met with or spoken to Comey nine times as president and president-elect, compared to just two such encounters under former President Barack Obama.

"This president is hands-on [and] wants to make sure that we have the best Justice Department available," he told Carlson, "and he made the decision as commander-in-chief to relieve a person from duty who was no longer capable of running the FBI."

Which might very well explain some of the MSM’s difficulty in comprehending Trump’s behavior, whereas they’re simply not used to an executive who actually involves himself in the conducting of daily responsibilities.

What’s more to the MSM’s familiarity with presidential attitudes is reflected in the haughtiness displayed by Obama who spoke to the Chamber of Commerce in Montreal on Tuesday.

As reported by Penny Starr @breitbart.com, he “warned against income inequality and the concentration of wealth—remarks from a man who reportedly commanded $400,000 a speech, or $7,700-a-minute at that rate, for his Canadian speech.”

Ignoring the hypocrisy of the matter totally, Obama said “the world must do more to combat income inequality, noting that the concentration of wealth fans fears that governments exist solely to benefit the powerful, NBC reported.

“That’s a recipe for more cynicism and more polarization, less trust in our institutions and less trust in each other,” Obama said.

“And it’s part of what leads people to turn to populist alternatives that may not actually deliver,” Obama said in a thinly disguised jab at President Donald Trump without naming his successor specifically.”

In this case, while Obama pockets hundreds of thousands for spewing hot air, he may be on to something in regard to his warning about politicians “that may not actually deliver.” Because he’s undoubtedly an expert on how non-delivery works, as his own performance in office certainly illustrates.

And then, Rush came up with another interesting observation about Trump’s style in dealing with those in opposition. This time regarding the border wall where Trump suggested building it with solar panels.

To begin, Rush noted that the idea originated with Scott Adams, creator of Dilbert, the cartoon character.

Rush said: “So Trump has come along and suggested it and some people don’t know what to make of it. Is Trump teasing them? Is he ragging ’em? Is he jagging ’em? Or does he really mean it? And the Dilbert cartoon guy thinks it’s neither. And he doesn’t think Trump is copying him. He thinks that there are certain personality types. You have people that are oriented in politics, you have people oriented in economics, in other words, whatever scenario they see politics, whatever scenario they see economics.

“But can you imagine — the thing I love about this, you know, you get past the motivations, why did Trump do it, my preferred reason is that he’s just jamming ’em. “Okay, you leftists, you don’t like that I pulled out of the Paris Accord, but you can’t oppose solar panels. You support solar panels wherever they are. Solar panels on top of igloos. Solar panels in places where polar bears live. Solar panels on the new Apple spaceship campus. Solar panels, I’m gonna put ’em on my wall.”

And then, in closing, Rush touched again on the aspect of Trump’s style that’s been employed throughout. Primarily because it works so well. Rush said: “I laughed, “I’ve seen this before.” And then I noticed all of these people in the blogosphere wringing their hands trying to figure out if Trump’s serious or if he’s making a joke, does he know what he’s doing. The same predictable reactions that you get from the various opposition factions, people opposed to Trump.”

And that’s exactly what Trump wants because, while they’re all staring at the sign that says “Watch Your Coat,” he’s eating their lunches.

That's it for today folks.

Adios
